Hi this is Kelly from Simple Grateful Life and I am here to show you an easy tip to help save you some money. We all like to save money especially when it doesn't take a lot of work. All those stops to the coffee shop for your iced coffee add up to a lot of money. I sat down a few years ago and tried to estimate how much I was spending at a certain donut/coffee place for my usual medium iced coffee and just in one month it added up to over $30!! I couldn't believe it, that was only a couple days a week, imagine if I went everyday like a lot of people do, no shaming here we all need our coffee! I don't know about you but I could have spent that $30 on something else or better yet, put it in my savings, that would be at least $360 saved in a year.Buying iced coffee at a coffeehouse or cold brew coffee in those cute containers at the market or iced coffee concentrate already made will make you waste an enormous amount of your money over time. Making it yourself can help you save that hard earned money. It is truly simple to make, inexpensive and more importantly you know exactly what is in it, no preservatives or crazy things added that aren't necessary and/or bad for you. All you need is ground coffee and good, clean water!
How to make iced coffee concentrate:
6 oz. of ground coffee3 cups cold waterStep 1: Grind your coffee rather finelyStep 2: Pour into a glass container, try to avoid a metal container so that you don't have a metallic taste in your coffeeStep 3: Add your cold water and give it a stir.Step 4: Cover and let sit on your counter for 8-12 hours, don't touch it.Step 5: Using 4 layers of cheese cloth and a mesh strainer, pour the coffee through into a clean glass container, this may take a few minutes.Step 6: Your concentrate is ready, I do half coffee concentrate to half water and/or cream (whatever you like in your coffee). Store remainder in an airtight container, I use a mason jar with a lid, in your fridge up to a week.We call it liquid gold, oh so yummy!Super simple right?!? I usually make a double batch at the beginning of the week because my hubby and I both drink it in the evenings so one batch doesn't last long around here. You can make this with regular, decaf or flavored coffees. I do hope you enjoy it, the process is a lot of fun and so easy, the hard part is just waiting for your first glass of refreshing iced coffee. So make it yourself and enjoy saving that money and feel free to visit me at my blog to see other recipes and DIYs to save money and enjoy delicious, simple food!
Enjoy!
Forever Grateful,
Kelly
