Healing From Lyme Disease - There Is Hope

These last few years have been tough for me. I still do not understand completely what I have been through or how the treatment plan has worked. What I can say is that Lyme disease is not for the faint at heart and I could not have gone through what I have on my own. Out of all the supplements, vitamins, diet changes and healing avenues I have gone down only one stands as the most important in my healing journey.

What was the most important factor in my healing from Lyme?

I have tried so many things many of which helped and many that did not. The most important piece in my whole healing journey by far has been my faith in Jesus Christ and his power to heal me. This might sound cliche or like just something a Christian ought to say but it has never been truer in my life than it has been now. Some days were so hard leaving me feeling defeated and overwhelmed, I would find myself despairing of life and what I was walking through if I did not keep my faith centered on the healing power of Jesus in my life.

What kept my faith centered on Jesus Christ in this time?

Often, I would start to get overwhelmed, and my mind would race with thoughts that were not drawing me closer to God. When this would happen the things that I felt drew me back to the place where I needed to be, were simple but key in my healing journey. The list below outlines the things that helped to grow my faith and keep it strong in the toughest battle of my life.
  • My church family - A good solid church family that encouraged me, spoke truth into my life and prayed for me and with me.

  • Time alone with the Lord - Prayer was always key to reminding me of who was in control and why I did not need to worry. It transformed me everytime I prayed a bit more and grew my relationship with God in ways that I never thought were possible. When you have to rely on God for every day to be able to function He will not fail you and will sustain you. This was definitely what I learned on many days where I truly felt like I could not go on.

  • The Word of God - My bible time, devotional readings & even a devotional vide that I would listen to daily really spoke to my heart. Encouraging me to lean on Him and trust God for what seemed impossible. Psalms 119: 105 “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”

  • My Faith - The bible tells us that “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” Having faith when everything around you seems to offer no hope is tough but it is possible. We draw strength in these times from one place that truly matters, our relationship with God. Nothing can ever take our relationship with God from us if we cling to Him through it all.

  • Daily devotional video - I found this daily video that I listened to every morning and found God spoke to me often through it. He would speak to me through that video and later confirm his word by repeating through a friend or my pastor on Sunday. Amazing how the Bible and the truths within are so timeless and can speak directly to our life today.

My favorite devotionals during this time

Our Daily Bread - completely free and you can even listen to it instead of reading.

God will Carry you Through - Max Lucado

Grace For Purpose Prayers - the daily devotional video which I listened to daily

I wrote another post that shares some other great free bible apps and tools that you can access online.

What else made a difference in my healing from Lyme disease?

If you read my previous post at all you would know that when I got nowhere getting answers from traditional medicine God led me to a functional medicine doctor. If you are struggling similarly, He will lead you also and your path may not look the same as mine. Draw near to Him & ask Him for the path that you should walk on. He will lead you and you will find healing on the path He leads you along.

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.”

Functional Medicine - I had previoyusly never heard of functional medicine until I developed Lyme and struggled to get answers. I discovered functional medicine with a quick google search asking what type of doctor will help me get to the root of the problem. The hard reality of having something like Lyme disease or other tick borne illnesses is that traditional medicine often overlooks these. Functional medicine, Lyme literate doctors and naturopathic doctors are not covered by insurance but are often the only route you can go if traditional medince fails to help you. This can be a very costly path to take but if you can find healing it is worth it when you are struggling as I was. The honest truth I spent more with traditional medicine and got nowhere before I took this path which actually led me to some healing.

Function Health Labs - Function health offers about 100+ labs for only $349 a year and you get to test twice that year which is all included in the price. It helped to reveal a few valuable things for me along the way and helped my functional doctor and I get a better overall picture of my health overall. I highly recommend it if you believe there could be more going on that you are missing why not get a better picture of your overall health which insurance will often not cover. I wrote a post here that shares about my function health experience. You can find it here.

  • Herbal teas - Dandelion Root, Red Clover, Moringa, Tumeric & Ginger & Lemon Balm were some of my favorites. I used Traditional Medicinals organic teas mostly.

  • Supplements from Cellcore Biosciences - I obtained each of these through My functional doctor. IS-Borr, BCATP, Biotoxin Binder, Ct Minerals & Mitoactive. What works for one person may not help another person though because our bodies & symptoms are often different. My biggest symptoms that I deal with were head pressure, jaw pain and swelling in my gums, neck pain, GI issues & lack of energy. However, as it progressed and as I treated I also had muscle, joint and nerve issues more and developed low iron and my b vitamins were also low so we also worked on those areas.

  • Working on my gut - I heard a lot of things about how important gut health was to healing overall. I began to add in some gut healing foods celery juice approximately 8 ounces & grassfed plain keifer - approximately 4 ounces & 1 tablespoon of saurkraut daily. This changed my health significantly once the Lord led me to do this.

  • Dietary changes - These were absolutely led by the Lord because I tried many changes encouraged by others in various Lyme support groups that did not help me. In the end the ones that made the most difference besides the gut healthy foods above were gluten free, increased animal protein (thankfully I did not have alpha gal like some people with lyme do), Broccoli sprouts, more olive oil and less seed oils, more vegetables and minimal fruits. Minimal carbs and following more of a Mediterranean style diet.

Isaiah 30:21 “Your own ears will hear him.
Right behind you a voice will say,
“This is the way you should go,”
whether to the right or to the left.”

I cannot tell you the exact path that God will lead you on to find your healing from Lyme or whatever you are struggling with today. However, I can tell you that He will never leave you and He will lead you along the right path if you cling to Him. There is hope my friends and His name is Jesus Christ. He is your healer and He is mine and if you trust Him He will not let you down. If you want to know more about Jesus my previous post shares more about who He is and what He did for you. Click here to read embracing a new life which shares more about my relationship with God.

God is always faithful! Trust the path He leads you on. You will smile again and you can have hope for the future.
